Yoga has certainly grown popular around the world, and for those that do not know Yoga is a very sophisticated mind and body exercise. Everybody believes that Yoga can do anything and everything, and by this meaning yoga can tighten buns and change the way you look at the world and life.

Unlike Pilates exercises yoga is literally a no-strain, calm and passive exercise. However, can this calm and passive exercise assist weight-loss?

It is true that an exercise like Yoga does not have the calorie-burning techniques of other exercises like aerobics. Yoga is an unexplained and phenomenal way that you can get in touch with your body. No other technique can achieve this. A person weighing 150lbs will be able to use 150 calories in one hour of practicing yoga. That same person will be able to lose 310 calories walking for one hour at a speed of 3mph. Some people look at yoga as a mind body technique, but others look at it as a way to shake off a few pounds. For some people it works wonders, but for others they will be practicing yoga for a very long time before they start to see results in weight loss.

When you are interested in weight loss you should do yoga as your exercise pattern, but with actual weight loss you need to think more along the lines of what your body feels and what it needs. It has more to do with harmony and perfect concentration when it comes to losing weight. It doesn’t matter how hard you train in order to lose weight; you have to be keen and serious about what you are doing. If you don’t believe that you will lose weight then you probably won’t. Many people believe that it is all physiological and it’s all in your mind. Weight loss is about your mind and body and what you can achieve with it when you really put your mind to it.

Yoga is more of an exercise ritual that will keep you fit. It isn’t something that you have to practice to lose weight. Yoga calms your nerves, relaxes your mind and body and just lets you forget about the troubles life throws at you on a daily basis. Yoga is important for some people, and no matter what their age is they cannot start their day properly if it is not with a yoga class. Yoga is important for these people and they feel incomplete if they haven’t done their yoga for the day, but not many people even try to associate yoga with weight loss.

It is physical activity that is good for your health and helps you to lose weight. Good regular exercise in combination with a balanced, healthy diet is what will help you in reaching your goal weight. If it is your weight you need to target then start jogging, join the gym or take part in a dance class, do some weight loss exercises. It all contributes towards a cardio workout which will help you shed those extra pounds.

Learning Power Yoga Poses and Asanas

Power yoga videos can be valuable tools to help students to learn power yoga poses without investing in an expensive class until they are sure that they enjoy it. Students need to choose the videos carefully to make sure that the instructor is certified to teach it. The poses are called Asanas in Sanskrit, the ancient Indian language. At the first instance, power yoga poses can be quite difficult to learn. Hence some students are more comfortable learning the poses in the comfort of their own home so that other people cannot see their mistakes. One caution in using a video to learn the power yoga poses is that the instructor on the DVD might not be fully trained to teach power yoga.

Types of Poses

This style allows for a lot of variety, but will almost certainly include Sun Salutations or “Surya namaskar ” in Sanskrit. There are power yoga poses that require the individual to hold on one hand and one foot, or even some that are all on the hands or on the head and hands. These balance poses require a lot of concentration and strength to hold it the entire time. There are other standing power yoga poses that are done in a balance position. Although all the power yoga poses require some degree of balance, there are some that are done on one foot with the other leg held up in the air in an asana position.

The word Vinyasa means “breath-synchronized movement. There are also some power yoga poses or asanas that are done while standing up. These poses require the students to hold their body weight in a variety of stances, from wide lunges to straddles. These poses help to develop the leg muscles and also help to make the person more flexible in those areas. There are also some twisting poses that use the upper body in a twisting hold so that the stretch is even deeper and the hold is more difficult.

Power yoga poses are also done on the floor, utilizing the hands and feet at the same time. Other poses are done more for flexibility and to open passageways rather than for the strength part of yoga. Some power yoga poses are done in what looks like a push-up position or some modified push-up position. There are others that are done lying down on the mat in various positions. Some of the power yoga poses or asnas are done for sheer relaxations, allowing both body and mind to relax completely for a matter of minutes.

Power yoga poses help to train individuals to concentrate fully on one thing and to learn to control their bodies in the various positions. It allows them to relax the parts of their body that are not working in that particular pose, and also teaches them to breathe properly.

The Benefits of Proper Yoga Instruction

Yoga is a very popular fitness routine that many people practice. Yoga instruction does not necessarily contain only the poses that are prevalent in most western yoga routines. In actuality, yoga is not centered on these poses or asanas, as they are called. The overall focus of yoga is the betterment of one’s self and enlightenment. This is something that one needs to know about yoga instruction before going for a class. You might be disappointed if all you expect from the yoga class are the poses.

Steps To Basic Yoga

Yoga instruction for beginners basically starts with a background of the simpler poses that are selected for those who are novices of the practice. You are taught the basic asanas as well as what to do while doing the poses.

Breathing is one of the most important aspects of yoga. Breathing in and out in a regulated manner can help you achieve a deeper concentration. Those who practice yoga need to be aware of how their bodies move and relax. Relaxing is yet another aspect of yoga that you need to understand. When you are doing the asanas, every move you make counts. Yoga instruction is necessary for beginners because they have no idea what to do and what to expect from the practice.

There are certain poses that can help you achieve certain goals. If you wish to encourage better digestive functions, there are some poses that can promote this. Other conditions can also be improved using the different asanas. These postures are usually used to improve the circulation of the body as well as enlighten the mind.

There are some asanas that are only used by more experienced individuals to achieve a higher degree of enlightenment. Most beginners to yoga have a difficult time listening to yoga instruction at the same time trying to balance their bodies or get into a more comfortable position.

Proper Yoga Instruction

Getting proper yoga instruction is also essential. There are many people who believe they know how to do yoga but they lack the belief in the practice. Although, they may know the poses that go with the practice, they may have no background whatsoever regarding the practice and beliefs that make up yoga.

Yoga instruction from videos and CDs can be very helpful for those who have some background in yoga. The background in yoga is needed for self teaching because yoga instruction from a qualified yogi or an expert in yoga may be different from what you comprehend from the videos or CDS.
