Yoga Position and Different Yoga Types: An Eye Opener

Normal 0

The influx of yoga studios, instructors and its commercialization has generated several yoga variations. Four of the most popular, modernized yoga types of variations include acroyoga, naked yoga, chair yoga, and hip-hop yoga.

Acroyoga

The physical practice that merges yoga exercises, acrobatics, and Thai massage, is called acroyoga. These three ancient exercises shape the groundwork of a fusion-style practice that promotes connection, trust and even good humor between partners. During acroyoga sessions, a base and a flyer are required. A base is an individual who has the most points of ground contact. A flyer is an individual who is lifted off the ground by the base. Acroyoga is viewed as a forerunner to more complex multi-partner yoga routines. The components of acroyoga include a circle ceremony, an asana warm-up, inverted yoga positions, partner acrobatics, a flyer’s flight, and Thai massage.

Naked yoga

One of the modern yoga types is the naked yoga. While many practice naked yoga at home, there are an increasing number of group classes. Nude yoga classes are already being offered in yoga studios and centers, as well as private clubs. Usually, the venue of the yoga practice sets the tone and helps establish clientele. Many nude yoga classes offered at yoga studios are inclined to be co-ed and the style of instruction may differ depending on the teacher.

Devotees find release in practicing naked in a safe and secure environment which they claim is strictly non-sexual. There’s no malice and most people who practice naked yoga take pleasure in the freedom of movement.

Chair yoga

A gentler form of yoga types is called chair yoga. A chair yoga exercise is practiced sitting on a chair or standing upright using a chair for support. Chair yoga classes and sessions are sometimes offered at senior retirement facilities, fitness centers, adult daycare centers, and nursing homes. Complex exercises and movements are not offered in a chair yoga session. Chair yoga incorporates breathing techniques, proper yoga positions, meditations, with the aid of a chair.

Hip-hop yoga

A fun and energizing variation of yoga types is hip-hop yoga, which adds a bit of dancing, singing, grooving, and snapping. Hip-hop yoga is an obvious combination of yoga, hip hop music, dance and with an emphasis on dancing. The outcome is a yoga style incorporated with Eastern and Western zing that’s athletically gratifying and spiritually relaxing. Hip-hop yoga’s philosophy covers yoga, invigorating workouts, and feel-good music, giving anybody a life-changing experience.

Power Yoga Video – choose the appropriate one

There are different choices on the market today that allow students to learn power yoga. There are power yoga videos, classes and even power yoga CD’s. It is important to choose a power yoga video carefully to make sure that the instructor is qualified to teach the class. Two famous yoga teachers are most often credited with the near simultaneous invention of power yoga: Beryl Bender Birch, based in New York, and Bryan Kest, based in Los Angeles, both have trained under with Ashtanga master Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. There are power yoga videos that give the instructors all that they need to be able to instruct their students. Good power yoga videos are the ones that are led by qualified instructors and also have more than one version of the workout depending on the level. The power yoga video should also offer modified versions of the various poses so that the beginners can use a modified position to make it easier and more advanced practitioners can use a harder position.

Equipment

Once a power yoga video is purchased, there are a few other things that are necessary in order to fully participate in the workout.

One of the items to focus on is proper yoga clothing when doing your yoga video class. The clothing should be loose and comfortable so that the different poses can be done without hindrance. Most people prefer some sweat pants or tights and a tank top which allow movement without hindrance. It is very important that the clothing used during yoga should not be so loose so as to move around too much and have to be readjusted during a pose, interrupting the flow of the asana.

The other important item needed is a yoga mat and can be purchased for about fifteen dollars. Yoga mats (also called sticky mats) are used in most yoga classes to provide cushioning and traction. Students’ hands and feet get sweaty when participating in the power yoga video and the rubberized mat helps to prevent slippage and mistakes. The yoga mat helps the students to keep their feet and hands in place when participating in the power yoga video. The cushion that is offered by the mat allows the individuals to have more comfort when participating in some of the floor poses, but it is not so thick that the students lose their balance when doing the balancing poses of their power yoga video.

A good power yoga video will leave the person feeling exhausted yet stretched out and relaxed at the same time. The poses in the power yoga video flow from one to the next, yet are held for about five slow breaths each to give the strength part of the workout. The poses are so difficult because they require the students to hold their own body weight, which gets tiring over time.

Dahn Yoga

Dahn yoga developed in South Korea not India and is modern unlike most forms of yoga. Known in Korea as Dahnak or Dahn Hak, the first Dahn yoga center was opened in Seoul in the 1980s by the originator of Dahn yoga, Il-chi Lee, although it is reported to be based on a much older tradition. It soon spread to the USA.

Like Hatha yoga, which is much better known in the west, Dahn yoga unites physical postures and breathing exercises and focuses on aligning the body and mind in order to expand the mind and allow better circulation of energy within the body. It also proposes some physical benefits like improving general health and fitness, promoting both longer life and improved vitality and quality of life and lowering stress levels.

Dahn yoga also claims to help the body learn to heal itself naturally, by improving the circulation of life energy and its connection with the mind and consciousness. This is done physically by exercises which are said to remove blockages in its path. Spiritual healing is also promoted through meditation along with improved relaxation. In yoga practice physical tensions and mental health are released and like other forms of yoga it is a holistic practice whose benefits reverberate into daily life.

Dahn Hak philosophy includes certain principles of the action and movement of life energy (ki, also spelled chi or qi) that students are taught during the classes. There tends to be more teaching of the ideas behind the practice than you would find in a Hatha yoga class in the West. This, together with the high prices that are often charged in comparison with other yoga classes, has resulted in some accusations of cult status. However, there does not seem to be any evidence of the human rights issues that are associated with dangerous cults. Nobody will stop you from leaving a Dahn yoga class, and making large profits is not by itself evidence of a cult, or many businesses would fall into that definition! Many mainstream Korean and Japanese martial arts and religious groups to be viewed as cults by some Americans. These accusations may simply be caused by differences between north east Asian culture and Western culture.

A typical Dahn yoga class will begin with meridian stretching exercises to stimulate the ki to pass freely through all the meridians of the body. These are followed by a series of postures and often a period of meditation or breathing exercises that focuses on releasing stagnant ki and storing fresh ki in the body’s center, the dan jeong or 2nd chakra, located in the abdomen just below the navel. Some Dahn classes teach a non-combative form of martial art called Dahn Mu Do that is more like tai chi than yoga.

Students report many health benefits from their practice of Dahn yoga as with other forms of yoga including resolution of many problems that are frequently stress-related such as back pain, shoulder and neck tension, sleeping problems, migraine and digestive disorders.
